Biography

Luz Elena Caicedo form Cali Colombia is one of London’s most accomplished and versatile Latin American  singers, as well as an experienced Latin folk dancer.
She fronts and leads her own two bands,  the renowned “Conjunto Sabroso” Salsa band which she has successfully run for over 10 years, helping them become a household name in the UK, and “Matices Latinos Quartet” which is her new musical project dedicated to the more folkloric and traditional Latin American rhythms.

With Conjunto Sabroso she has travelled extensively to countries such as Spain, Belgium, Germany, The Beijing International Festival in China, and The Kijani festival in Kenya Africa playing at the legendary “The Carnivore” club in Nairobi. Some of the most important   UK performances include: The Royal Festival Hall, The Fridge, The Shepherd’s Bush Empire, The Grand, The London Astoria, KoKo Camden, Café de Paris  (London), The Assembly Rooms (Edinburg), The Lemon Tree (Aberdeen), Band on the Wall (Manchester), The Fiddler’s Club (Bristol), the Bath International Festival, Riverside Studios and The national Theatre London.

She has worked as  backing singer for Salsa international stars such as Adalberto Santiago (Fania), Jose Mangual Junior, Henry Fiol, Cano Estremera, Luisito Carrion, Maelo Ruiz, Pedro Arroyo, and Tito Nieves.

She possesses a deep knowledge and understanding of most Latin American musical genres, which enables her to comfortably deliver any song from a Peruvian waltz to a Colombian Cumbia, to a Bolero, to a Mexican Ranchera, to a Cuban Son, or to an Argentinian Tango.  With her distinctive clear and bright voice Luz Elena’s singing is full of passion and feeling,  and her personal, intimate and rhythmic approach to the Latin American song book has lead her to great acclaim within the World music circuit.
